What is Tradition?

The word tradition comes from the Latin word traditio which means "to hand down". It is used in a number of ways in the English language:

  1. Beliefs or customs taught by one generation to the next.
  2. A set of customs or practices.
  3. A broad religious movement made up of religious denominations that have a common history, customs, culture, and, to some extent, body of teachings.

However, basically, tradition(s) can be seen as information or composed of information. For that which is brought into the present from the past, in a particular societal context, is information. This is even more fundamental than particular acts or practices even if repeated over a long sequence of time. For such acts or practices, once performed, disappear unless they have been transformed into some manner of communicable information.

What is a Dutch Tradition?

Dutch tradition is the handing down of a Dutch custom/customs from one generation to the next.

Hello there. This webpage is created by my group called 'Papeaheh'. The purpose of creating this webpage is to get Singaporeans to apply a certain Dutch tradition into their daily life so that it can benefit Singapore. This is actually a school project. However, much effort has been put in and 'Papeaheh' certainly hopes to see the tradition being applied so that Singapore can be a better place, a better home and a better country.

Sincerely,

Papeaheh
